Vehicle History
A rust free, unmolested, Charger Rallye with many NOS parts!. Remains correct to its original build sheet including numbers matching 400 Magnum four barrel engine and numbers matching automatic transmission (slapstick). Every effort has been made to restore and detail this Charger to preserve its originality and correctness.

Major Options

FE5 Rallye Red paint. Major original options include A57 Charger Rallye package (special dark argent grill, power buldge hood w/black performance treatment, simulated door louvers, louvered taillights, rallye instrument panel, front and rear sway bars), black vinyl bucket seat interior, black canopy vinyl roof, air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, tinted glass, center console, slotted style exhaust tips, front and rear bumper guards, wheel opening moldings, dual chrome racing mirrors, front and rear bumper periphry moldings, AM radio, 14" Magnum road wheels, and 3.23 axle ratio.

Restoration Information

When purchased from Virginia in 1997 this was a nice, rust free original car that had never seen a major accident, and never been modified or abused. It also had the majority of its original and correct date coded parts. The car was 85% original except for its first and only re-paint done by its previous owner in 1994. Since then it has undergone an extensive mechanicial and cosmetic restoration since it showed pretty heavy signs of age and cosmetic wear on exterior trim items (from sitting outside and being a daily driver). This was a classic case of the more things I made look nice, the more other things were noticeable. The restoration mainly involved removal and detailing of components. If anything was found to be incorrect or not perfect, it was replaced with an NOS or perfect used example. Mechanically the drivetrain was solid, and the previous owner replaced the double roller timing chain and had the transmission overhauled before I bought it. Except for needed repairs along the way, the car was virtually untouched mechanically so almost everything leaked oil. I was very happy to see that the engine was never out of the car or rebuilt which meant it remained totally stock, and to this day it still retains the original bore. The remaining powertrain items all needed either freshening or rebuilding due to age, mileage, and reliability factors.

Originality

Has original fender tag and laminated buildsheet. Door jambs, engine compartment and trunk paint are all original. Front and rear wheel wells, floor, and trunk pan still have the original paint showing. Engine and transmission have serialized VIN number stamping. Carburetor, intake manifold, cylinder heads, exhaust manifolds, steering gear, distributor, and radiator are correct original components. All interior and exterior screws are correct originals. Engine and firewall bolts, including all plastic straps, fasteners, spark plug shields, and wire holders are correct as well. Even has the correct "ribbed style" vacuum and heater hoses.

Vehicle has no other modifications except for an AM/FM radio instead of the standard AM, and a 3.55 ratio suregrip instead of the original 3.23 (with the correct 489 case).

Condition

Driveability and relaibility are excellent. Runs and drives like a new 30 year old car. Vehicle is very clean and exceptionally well detailed. Paint is not quite show quality by today's standards but very nice for #2 car. Quality of exterior and interior ornamentation including soft trim is perfect. Engine compartment is clean and correctly detailed except for its untouched original paint - which has slight surface rust mostly near battery. There are no known mechanical problems or repairs needed except the rear differential whines about 40-45 mph under a slight load.
